It's time to begin our annual fundraiser for the Foodbank of Central and Eastern North Carolina! For each of the past two years, we have succeeded in raising nearly $3,000 for the foodbank . This year, with rising fuel and food prices, the foodbanks and food pantries in North Carolina are desperately struggling to keep up with the increasing demand for assistance. Many people are having to choose between paying for food, utility bills, or medicine. Summer is an especially hard time, as many children are out of school (and thus not getting subsidized or free meals) and there is generally little fundraising activity.
At any rate, in this time of big need, and with such a big group, we have set a bigger goal for our drive this year! We are going to raise $5,000! This may sound like a lot, but we can raise it easily! With a our group reaching nearly 400 members, it would only take an average donation of $15 from each member for us to surpass that goal. And $5,000 would allow the foodbank to distribute approximately $40,000 worth of food.
So...you next question, no doubt, is: HOW CAN I DONATE?
Here are the ways to donate:
1) The most convenient way to make a contribution is through our running group "virtual food drive" which you can find at this link: http://www.foodbankcenc.org/VFD_Galloway
This secure, interactive site lets you decide how much you want to donate to our fundraiser either by selecting certain pre-set amounts or by simply selecting "cash donation" and inserting the amount you would like to donate. After you have made a donation, you will receive a thank you email from the
Food Bank that will also serve as a receipt. You will see the thermometer
on the site gradually rise to meet our goal (wait about 20 minutes after
your donation to see the change). If you donate an amount that makes you
eligible for a "Put Hunger on the Run" t-shirt or free admission to the
end-of-year party (see the "But wait! That's not all!" note below for more
info), forward a copy of that email to our group fundraising coordinator
Carolyn Quarterman (cquarter@earthlink.net).
2) Do you dislike making transactions on the internet? Never fear, you can also contribute by check (made out to the Foodbank of Central and Eastern NC) or cash. Assuming your name and address are on your check, the Foodbank will send you a receipt/thank you letter. If a check or cash is your preference, please hand it to Carolyn before one of our runs. If you can't find her, hand it to Ron and he'll pass it on. Donations made in this way will take a few weeks to show up on the goal thermometer on our website. But wait! That's not all!
- If you are one of the first 25 people to raise or contribute at least $50, you will get a super cool, moisture-wicking "Put Hunger on the Run" t-shirt designed by our very own Esther Dill! The shirts should be ready some time in July, and I will keep track of the first 25 who donate $50 and make sure that you get one. (A big thank you to Jim Micheels of Raleigh Running Outfitters for contributing them.)
- If you raise $100 or more, you will get FREE ADMISSION to our Galloway year-end party, with some special recognition.
We hope you will participate in this fundraiser and help us put hunger on the run! All contributions, whether large or small, are greately appreciated.
